St Laurence’s B.N.S Active School week (ASW) 2018, took place on the 23rd -27th of April.
The focus of our ASW programme was FUN and PARTICIPATION. It was an ideal opportunity to introduce young people and their families to new ways of being active, both during the school day and in the local community.
During our ASW the boys in each class took part in fun sporting events such as, penalty shoot outs, mini sports days and crazy competitions. Our 4th and 5th class students also ran a mile around Deer Park with other local primary schools. To end the week, the boys from Junior and Senior infants and First and Second classes took part in their first Walk a Mile with a Smile initiative which involved walking a mile from the school to a local park and back. Parents from Junior and Senior Infants were encouraged to come along and join the fun.
Well done to all the boys and parents involved!

Our teachers are some of the best keepers around!
The 2017 Active School’s Week took place the week of the 24th -28th of April. Active School’s Week is an initiative that is organised in schools across Ireland annually, which provides physical activity opportunities for the whole school community that are enjoyable and inclusive to all. ASW offers an opportunity for schools to raise awareness about physical activity and how fun it can be, in addition to it being extremely beneficial for your health and wellbeing.
Active School’s Week can promote and encourage the school community to avail of the physical activity opportunities in their area and to work collectively as a community, involving parents, students, teachers and all community members.
During this week the St. Laurence’s BNS took part in our “Walk a mile with a smile” initiative. This involved all pupils and staff members walking a mile through the local community and back to the school. Fun was had, and the walk was such a great success, that we look forward to our next one.

Walk a mile with a smile - Well done everyone!

The activities did not stop there! In the lead up to active week, each class participated in a penalty competition during their P.E. class. The two qualifiers from each class then got a chance to battle it out for the title of the school’s Penalty King! Not only were there prizes at stake, but also a chance to take penalties and score against their teachers and maybe even one against their principal It was a great success and no doubt will be the highlight of next year’s Active week.

Who will be the penalty king?

Top corner - No chance Mr. Murphy!

Well done to all our Kings!!
