Principal for a day – Joe Crane

Jane DoohanUncategorized

The first thing I did as Principal Crane was to meet Mr. Moran at 8.15am. After that we went out to the astro yard to organise the basketballs. When it was 8.37am, I opened the school doors, to let the junior and senior infants into the school. Then I went back outside. At 8.40am I rang the bell. This meant that all the classes had to line up and wait for their teachers to come out and take them inside. We went back to Mr. Moran’s office to write out the lines I had to say over the intercom. Then we went up to the office and I said my lines on the intercom. After that we went to the hall to prepare for the assembly.

The assembly started at 9.35am. At the assembly we talked about the following subjects, GAA, art, chess, the Green Committee and the recycled Christmas decorations. I enjoyed speaking in front everyone and handing out the prizes to the winners of each subject. At the end of the assembly Darragh O'Callaghan played the violin and Danny Kashanin played the keyboard. At the end, Jack Cahill sang “Silent Night” solo, with Eoin Tully and Charlie Hannify translating what Jack said in sign language. Then it was small break. After break Santa visited each class. Then I went to Mr. Moran’s office. He had to take a phone call so he sent me to walk around with Santa Claus!

It was great to get to walk around with Santa. We were on the last class when Mr. Moran came to collect me. Then we visited my own class to check in on their work. After that we handed out some Good Attitude Certificates. Then it was time for lunch. At around 1.10pm I announced my two initiatives which were, no homework and from 1.30pm, every class had to watch a movie or play board games until the end of the day. After that we had to hand out Good Attitude Certificates in Mr. Murphy’s class. Just as we were about to leave, Mr. Mullins and the guys who play guitar came in. They wanted to play a few Christmas songs for Mr. Murphy’s class.

Since I do guitar, I rushed back to Mr. Mullins’ room to get the spare guitar. Then I went back to Mr. Murphy’s class and started to play. Finally, I had to host a Student Council Meeting. After that we took some photographs in memory of my day.

My day ended at 2.00pm.  I had a terrific day and was sad that it had to end.
