The main sporting club that St Laurence’s B.N.S liaise with, is Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club. The GAA club facilitate and assist with the training of our school hurling and football teams four days a week. Their underage development officers visit the school weekly, during lunch time and lead skill and training sessions. Senior infants to second class have access to these sessions and they are a great way of introducing the pupils to Gaelic games.
After school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, some of our teachers accompany over 40 boys down to the club to participate in training and skill sessions. During May and June the boys get a chance to showcase their talents when they compete in multiple blitz competitions organised by Kilmacud Crokes. These also provide excellent experience for when our teams take part in the Cumann na mBunscol competition. St Laurence’s has achieved great success in this competition as a result.

What a day!

Over the last few years we have invited Leinster rugby and Cricket Ireland to come into the school to provide training sessions. This has introduced the boys to new sports and given them a chance to play sports they might not have experienced before. We have welcomed and been grateful to such organisations which have visited the school and any feedback from the children has always been of a positive nature. The school is also in regular contact with Dun Laoghaire sports partnership and are kept informed about any initiatives which may be upcoming.

This year many activities were held in St Laurence’s for national fitness day, including penalty shootouts and a dodgeball tournament. The Junior and Senior Infant classes got a chance to take penalties against their P.E. teacher, Mr. Byrne which they certainly enjoyed, as they loved getting a chance to score against him. The 3rd and 4th class boys took part in a Dodgeball competition. Overall, the boys had a great day and enjoyed an additional day to wear their tracksuits and be extra active!
